She was born in Fountain Green, Utah, June 17, 1909, daughter of Niels Peter Aagard and Rachel Collard Aagard. She attended schools in Fountain Green; and she graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo in 1926; and she graduated from BYU in 1931. She married Newell A. Johnson, February 28, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was devoted homemaker and a loving and giving person, and an avid gardener. Throughout her life she was active in both church and civic affairs, and was actively engaged as wife and partner with her husband in the sheep business for over 50 years. She is survived by her husband, Provo; three daughters: Mrs. Gloria Martineau (Reed),Salt Lake City; Mrs. Kaye Ivie (Devon), Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Kristine Lee (Ted), South Jordan; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, February 19, 1996 in Provo. Interment, Fountain Green City Cemetery. [Deseret News, Saturday, February 17, 1996.]~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Newell Adorian Johnson, 99, passed away peacefully March 23, 2006, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah. He was born July 8, 1906, in Fountain Green, Utah, to Franklin and Olena Johnson, the second of nine children. He attended school in Fountain Green; also attending Snow College in Ephraim for two years. He served as an LDS missionary in Australia from 1929-1931. On February 28, 1934, he married C. Joy Aagard in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Provo, Utah, where they raised three daughters. His wisdom and business sense enabled him to build a successful sheep ranching operation, and he remained actively involved in many aspects of agriculture. He loved the outdoors and was a responsible steward over everything that was placed in his charge. He was well known for his intelligence, quick wit, generosity, and his extraordinary ability to make friends and influence people. Throughout his life, he held many leadership positions, serving on local, state, and national boards for the BLM, the Big Game Board, as President of the Timpanogos Canal Company, and President of the Utah Wool Growers Association. Recently, he was honored with the Woolgrowers' Career Service Award, as BYU's Basketball Fan of the Year, and was the Senior Attendee at the Old Sheepherder Gathering this year. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions, serving as Bishop of the Provo Seventh Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife and all of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughters: Mrs. Gloria (Reed) Martineau, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Kaye (Devon) Ivie, of Provo; and Mrs. Kristine (Ted) Lee, of West Mountain; and their children and grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in Provo. Interment, Fountain Green City Cemetery. [Provo Daily Herald, March 26, 2006.]

Class of 1926? Stella Ann Cahoon Hawley, 92, passed away on May 28, 2000 at Bountiful, Utah. Stella was born March 8, 1908, in Deseret, Utah, the daughter of Hyrum Stiles and Harriet Gertrude Church Cahoon. She was educated at the AC Nelson Elementary School, Hinckley High School and Brigham Young Academy. Stella worked at the Deseret Cash Store and the D. Stevens Store for many years. She married Fon Roy Hawley on July 23, 1948. Stella is survived by three children: Robert (Louise) Carling, Dale (Pat) Carling, Marlena (Mark) Lewis; 14 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nayon (Eugene) Young. She was preceded in death by brother Newell Cahoon, and sister Elpba Cahoon. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in the MIA, Sunday School, and Relief Society. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 31, 2000, Deseret-Oasis. Interment, Oasis Cemetery. [Deseret News, Tuesday, May 30, 2000]

Class of 1926 ~ Honorary. Riley Garner Clark. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Riley Garner Clark was born December 2, 1908 in Monroe, Utah, the second of nine children born to Dr. James Cecil and Laura Clark. He married Merle Louise Anderson on September 8, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away July 11, 2008 in Provo, Utah. He attended elementary school in Monroe and at the BYU Training School. He went on to Provo High, BYU High School, the University of Utah School of Medicine, and received his doctor of medicine degree at Louisiana State School of Medicine in 1937. After serving four years as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Air Force in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II, he returned to his practice of medicine as a much beloved obstetrician and pediatrician. He was a member of the Utah State and County American Medical Associations and served as president of both The Utah County Medical Association and the medical staff of the Utah Valley Hospital. For eight years he worked on the city/county Board of Health. He was active in the LDS Church. He pioneered the scouting program in Europe as a Swiss-German missionary. He was a charter member of the first Boy Scout troop in the Provo 5th Ward and became an Eagle Scout. He was a frequent teacher and served in the High Priest Stake Presidency. For many years he balanced service as a member of the Board of Directors and as Medical Examiner for the Provo Deseret Industries with being an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple, all the while maintaining his medical work. He hunted, fished, camped, and hiked with dear friends, and passed on his love for the great outdoors to his posterity. He was a fine cook, an eager oil painter, and had an amazingly green thumb. He was devoted to his wife, Merle Louise and daughter, Joan Cecile who both preceded him in death. In the latter part of his life, his primary passion was the nurturing and enjoyment of his grandchildren. Riley is survived by his grandchildren, Laurie (Marvin) Payne, Janae (Stephen) Thomas, Kristen (Joseph) Day, Daina (Shawn) Bitters, Tia (Alex) Hall, and Brian (Cami) Koralewski, son in law David Koralewski and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret (Calvin) Hutchings and Barbara (William) Cooper. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Dr. DaCosta (Erma, Hazel) Clark, Dr. J. Kyle (Lois) Clark, Dr. Albert D. (Della) Clark, and Grant Z. (Jean) Clark, and by sisters Edith (Melvin) Oveson and Cecile (Harry) Dixon. He cultivated a close and supportive relationship with his siblings and their families throughout his life. We celebrate our dear Grampa, brother RG, Uncle R and will sorely miss his love, his good humor, his faith, his friendship. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Oakhills 9th Ward, 1960 North 1500 East, Provo. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo. Class of 1926. Reta Ercanbrack Whiting. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Reta Ercanbrack Whiting died of natural causes in Salt Lake City, July 17, 1997. She was born November 4, 1907 in Goshen, Utah to Otis L. and Julia Ercanbrack. She was one of 14 children, ten brothers and three sisters. Reta graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1926, and continued her education at the University of Utah, graduating from the School of Nursing in 1930. She did nursing graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in 1935 and returned to Utah to continue her nursing career where she served as operating room and night supervisor at Salt Lake General Hospital. She married Quinn A. Whiting, M.D. in November 1940 and moved to Carbon County, Utah. Quinn and Reta made their home in Price, Utah with their three children until his death in October 1979. Reta had many interests but her love of the sport of golf superseded all others. She played golf every summer day for many years. She was active in the Utah Golf Association and promoted Utah Junior Golf. Reta is survived by three children, Dorothy, Quinn Ernest, and Reta Mae; four grandchildren, Nicole Lynch; Justin Karras; Amy Lynch and Adrianna Karras. She is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Kenneth, Reid, Letha and Grant. Graveside services were held at the Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in the name of Reta E. Whiting to be made to the College of Eastern Utah, Prehistoric Museum, 451 East 400 No., Price, UT 84501. Background sources: BYU/BYH Annual Catalogues for the School Years 1923-24, 1924-25, and 1925-26. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: On 22 December 1999 (Mrs Ward) Elzada Elizabeth Fietkau Evans, 93, of Sandy, Utah followed the setting sun to rejoin her loved ones and her Heavenly Father on the other side of the veil. Born 14 March, 1906 in Milburn, Sanpete County, Utah, to Elmira Mower and Carl Elmer Fietkau. Moved to Boneta, Duchesne County, Utah in 1912 where she attended schools at Boneta and Duchesne. She also attended Brigham Young Academy at Provo, Utah [Note: BYA ceased to exist in 1903 -- she also attended either BYH or BYU.]. On February 1, 1928, she married her neighbor and sweetheart, Ward Evans, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they built a house, cleared the land and began a family. They lived in Boneta 1928 - 1952, Maeser, Uintah County, 1952 - 1977, and Sandy, Utah 1977 - 1999. Elzada was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ward; and two sons: Warren Kent, and Gayle Griffin Evans. She is survived by her sons, Gordon (Beth) Evans of West Valley City, Chad (Betty) Evans, Roosevelt, Wendell (Donna) Evans, Coalville, Forrest (Luella) Evans, Murray, Conrad (Pat) Evans of Salt Lake, Val (Joyce) and Burke Evans of Sandy; daughters, (Dawn) Eloise Gatherum of Roy, (Terry) Katherine Thimmis of La Grande, Oregon; brother, Ross (Janet) Fietkau of North Ogden; sisters, Bernice Abplanalp of Yucaipa, California, (Jack) Ruby Fitzwater, Salt Lake City, and (Napier) Alice Swasey of Roosevelt, Utah; Her progeny include 42 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; and 16 great great-grandchildren. Mother Evans, a diligent and active member of the LDS Church, had two main goals in life; leading her progenitors back to the presence of her Father in Heaven by example and serving the Lord in the variety of positions she was called to with all her heart, might, mind, and strength. She felt compelled to comb the earth searching for the records of her ancestors. This she did as long as possible. We know she will continue this process along with her loved ones in her new home. Thanks mom, for your life, your love and your shinning example of goodness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 28th, 1999, in Sandy, Utah. Her parents were Henry Jackson and Amanda Rozilla Allred Jackson. Audrey Jackson Hiller died on December 24, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Released 1981. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Walter William Hiller, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 1993 in the LDS Hospital from respiratory complications following cancer surgery. Walter was born in Leipzig, Germany, the son of William Richard Edward Hiller and Bertha Auguste Boehme. He graduated from Brigham Young High School, and then from BYU with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His marriage to his first wife, Audrey Jackson [BYH Class of 1927], was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1933. She preceded him in death in 1961. There were six children born to this marriage. On November 5, 1962 he married Annie Olson in the Logan LDS Temple. Walter operated the Hiller Bookbinding Company until 1982 when he retired and with his wife, served a mission to the Austria Vienna Mission. Other church service includes two stake missions, various ward and stake assignments, Temple Square Guide for many years and was currently serving in the LDS Member Locating Department. He was survived by his wife Annie and six children: Walter W. Hiller, Jr. (Joan Chapman); Henriette H. Haworth (Robert H.); Melvin Jackson Hiller (Lyn Packer); Irene H. Johnston (N. Paul); Evelyn Hoen (John M.); Karl Jackson Hiller (Debbie Christensen); also survived by his brother Rudolph William Hiller and by 31 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, 1993 in the Valley View 8th Ward, 4032 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Mememorial Park. [Deseret News, Thursday, June 17, 1993]
