Jill and Allen Andersen

Class of 1973. Jill Thompson. I graduated from BYU in 1977 with a degree in Accounting. I married Allen Andersen. We have lived in Hong Kong since 1980. ~ ~ ~ ~ Her parents: Woodrow Marsh Thompson and Veryl Davis Thompson of Provo. The children of Woodrow and Veryl Thompson include: Karen Thompson (Raul) McQuivey of Oakton, Virginia; Stephen W. Thompson [BYH Class of 1962] (Fonette); Sue Thompson [BYH Class of 1967] (Randy) Heaton; Philip Thompson [BYH Class of 1971] (Carrie); and Jill Thompson [BYH Class of 1973] (Allen) Anderson. ~ ~ ~ ~ I have enjoyed looking at the website and reliving old memories. Thank you! We live close to Aberdeen, above Ocean Park, an amusement park. I have tried to learn Mandarin with little success. It is so easy to live here and not speak the language. I speak only a few words of Cantonese, I am embarrassed to say. Our three children are fluent Mandarin speakers. They attended the Hong Kong International School where they had Mandarin instruction from the time they were in kindergarten. My husband, Allen, was a missionary in Taiwan – among the first group after it was split from the Hong Kong mission – in 1971. We absolutely love living in Hong Kong. Before my husband and I married, I knew we would live in Asia someday. We moved to Hong Kong from the New York City area for a 3-year employment contract and never went back. When we first came here my husband was working for a toy company (Kenner Parker) sourcing toys throughout Asia. After 4 years, he went to work for Continental Grain and did agribusiness in China for 13 years. Since then he has worked for various direct investment companies. He currently does consulting for various companies and is on the board of two US companies. He is in his 5th year of being in the Asia Area Presidency of the LDS Church. He travels extensively throughout Asia with his church calling. I accompany him on mission tours and have had the opportunity to go with him to India, Taiwan, Mongolia, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. It is an incredible opportunity for us to see the members of the church in all of these places. Next month we are going to Laos for the first time. When our daughter was still at home with us, we organized these trips around her school holiday schedule and took her along. I go to the US once or twice a year. My husband goes about 6 times a year with his business. Our parents are living in Orem. Our second son is at BYU Provo. Our daughter is also there, but she is doing a BYU semester abroad in China at this time. Our oldest son is married and lives in Seattle. We have no plans to leave Hong Kong until we start serving missions – of course. @October 2006 ~ ~ ~ ~ Update: I am moving to Mongolia in July 2007 to serve a 3-year mission with my husband. ~ ~ ~ ~ Note: email sent to jillandersen@netvigator.com is coming back marked as incorrect. @May 2007
