Prestwich, Edgar Varley

Prestwich, Edgar Varley
North Salt Lake, Utah US

Ed and Nina Prestwich

Class of 1940 ~ Honorary? Edgar V. Prestwich. [Name does not appear with a senior class in any BYH yearbook.] ~ ~ ~ ~ AMMO EXPERT MAKES THE ROUNDS. Ed Prestwich, one of Utah's finest custom bullet and ammunition makers, says he must have made many millions of rounds of pistol, rifle and shotgun ammunition in his life. An avid hunter, target shooter and reloader since he was a boy, Prestwich grew up in Provo, graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1940 and spent eight years in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. After his discharge in 1948, Prestwich attended BYU and majored in accounting and business administration and spent nearly 30 years as an accountant and computer operator during the day and a restaurant chef at night. The North Salt Lake man retired from his office job in 1979, quit cooking and started his own ammunition reloading business, Ed's Custom Ammunition and Bullets, in his home in North Salt Lake. Prestwich, now 67 [in 1988], has taught hundreds of people how to reload ammunition. It is often difficult for him to get any work done as his phone practically rings off the wall with calls from people who want to ask him some reloading question. That is why his workday usually starts at 3 a.m. ``I get plenty of work done by 7 a.m.,'' he said. Even his best students often prefer to let Prestwich make ammunition for them, especially if they are going on a safari to Africa or on a once-in-a-lifetime hunt to Alaska or other exotic places. Hunters also seek him out to make custom ammunition for hunting buffalo, moose and bear. He and his wife, Nina, enjoy going to gun shows and drive more than 8,000 miles a year to weekend shows in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Nevada. [Published in the Deseret News, Friday, April 8, 1988.] ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Edgar Varley (Ted & Ed) Prestwich, 75, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 9, 1997 Bountiful, Utah. Born February 6, 1922 in Vineyard, Utah, to Horace Emerson and Zipporah Varley Prestwich. Member CCC, U.S. Navy, Utah National Guard, Coast Guard and Naval Reserves and was a decorated World War II veteran. Met his eternal sweetheart, Nina Ann Luke, November 11, 1946. They were married on March 12, 1947, solemnized April 27, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple and were just one month away from celebrating their 50th anniversary. They lived in San Francisco, Provo, Salt Lake City, and North Salt Lake for 30 years making it their home. He was Chief Commisary Steward, Chef, accountant, data processor and LDS Church custodian. He developed one of his many hobbies into a small business, Ed's Custom Bullets. He attended many gun shows and was well known for his reloading expertise by many customers and exhibitors. Member of the LDS Church. Survived by his loving wife, Nina; children, Sandra Allred, Sandy; Richard , Everett, Washington; Janice (Larry) Turner, North Salt Lake; Cheryl (Clint) Merrell, Sandy; and Darwin (Mary Lue), Riverside, California.
