Julia is pictured with the BYH Class of 1927 in the BYU Banyan yearbook, BYH section. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Julia Burgener Terry, age 91, passed away peacefully September 8, 2000, in Kaysville, Utah. Born November 8, 1908, in Midway, Utah to John Frederick and Marie Wuethrich Burgener. She married Woodrow G. Terry, Sr. May 1, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death January 22, 1984. Julia's parents were Swiss immigrants who homesteaded in the Uintah Basin where Julia was reared. She later worked at LDS Hospital, W. T. Grant Co. and David's Drapery, where she retired. She served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church Canyon Rim 3rd Ward. She was very active with Singles Group, Book Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Julia loved gardening, quilting and working with her hands, touching the lives of all those who she loved. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Julia is survived by two daughters and one son, Julia (H. Gary) Pehrson, Kaysville, Utah; Elizabeth (Stephen L.) Rosevear, Bountiful, Utah; Woodrow G. Terry, Jr. (Cynthia), Sandy, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, Sept 12, 2000 at the Canyon Rim LDS Stake Center, (3051 S. 2900 E). Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary. His parents were Andreas Burgener and Magdalena Meier. He married Lenora "Nora" Taylor on December 21, 1911 in El Paso, Texas. They later moved to California in the 1930’s. Nora died on January 8, 1971 in San Diego, California. Her first husband was Mathias [Matthias] F. [or T.] Cowley, of Springerville, Apache County, Arizona, married on September 16, 1905]. Walter died on May 13, 1975, in Chula Vista, San Diego County, California. Interment, San Diego, California.

Note: Another record says Walter H. Burgener married Katie Deon Van Wagoner on October 8, 1913. This man was Walter's second cousin, a different person with the same name. Her parents: William Van Wagoner & Lelia Naomia Alexander Van Wagoner. Katie died on April 21, 1941.

Class of 1947. Ray Burk, born circa 1929, probably in Arizona. His parents were F. Elmer Burk and Matia McClelland Burk, who were married on May 17, 1924, in St. Johns, Arizona. They had two sons, Ralph Burk and Ray Burk, and one daughter, Helen Burk. The Burk family moved from Eager, Arizona to Provo, Utah in June 1943. F. Elmer Burk died in Provo, Utah in August 1947, at the age of 48. He had been working as a welder at Geneva Steel, doing defense construction. Ray's father, Elmer, was the son of Hubert Roselle Burk and Laura Davis Burk. At the time of his father's death, Ray was in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, California. Source. Ralph’s story began on January 8, 1932 when he was born to the presumed Harvey Sims and Daisy Lee Wells in Mineral Wells, Texas. His mother died from childbirth complications when he was six years old. Ralph was adopted by Fay Elmer Burk and Matia McClelland Burk in 1943. He graduated from Provo High School in 1950, and then later graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a minor in math. Ralph founded Comtrol, Inc. (general contractors) in 1968 and retired on December 31, 2016. Ray Burk has at least two children, Phillip Burk and Shannon Burk.

Married Dixie Forsyth, BYH Class of 1954. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: 1935-2016 Earl Lewis “Sonny” Burningham died September 17, 2016 in Payson, Utah. He was born March 11, 1935 in Provo, Utah to Ray and Jane Burningham. He graduated from B.Y. High in the Class of 1954, and married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Rae Forsyth, also Class of 1954, on December 10, 1954. Sonny and Dixie were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on August 8, 1971. They have seven children: Scott (Joanie), Brad (deceased May 5, 1975), Tim (Jennie), Todd (Jessica), Shelly (Edward Wright), Kris (David Pattee), and Cindy (Michael Larsen). Sonny inherited the love of farming from his father. He enjoyed working with his four sons. His daughters loved riding along in the hay truck and singing songs with their Dad. He was a friend to all and was known for his sense of humor. Sonny served in the 145th Field Artillery Regiment of the Army National Guard. He also enjoyed many years as a Young Men and Boy Scout leader. He received a service award for his influence in the lives of young men in the community. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call on the family at the mortuary on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8, and on Wednesday morning from 10 until 10:50. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Green River Mayor Glen Dale Johnson, presented the lifetime achievement award to Tom Burr. By COREY BLUEMEL, Staff Writer, Emery County [Utah] Progress. ~ ~ ~ ~ January 3, 2006. ~ ~ ~ ~ The city of Green River and the mayor hosted their annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner at the LDS church on Dec. 16. The Community Center decorated the gym with a Fiesta theme. Mayor Glen Dale Johnson awarded the Green River Lifetime of Service Award to G. Thomas Burr. Monroe read about Burr's life, "Tom was born in Moab and he graduated from Grand County High in 1950. He attended Carbon College. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-54. While in Korea he was asked to be the LDS group leader. They held services in a quonset hut on the base. Tom has held a variety of positions in his church. In 1954 he married Phyliss Hunt on Sept. 11. They have five children, 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Tom was an athlete, playing BYU football and running track. In 1956 he graduated from BYU and began teaching in Snowflake, Arizona. He coached athletics for five years. In 1961 they moved and he taught in Monticello, then later at Brigham Young High School in Provo. After BYU High School closed its doors at the end of the 1968 school year, they moved to Green River where Tom became the principal of grades K-12. In 1990 he retired as a school administrator from the Emery County School District. In 2001 he was awarded the Hometown Hero Award. Through his life Tom has served on 11 different boards. Currently he is serving as a city councilman and the commander of the American Legion Post 104. Tom is always a highly respected and productive team member; he has voted to support development and services for this area and our community. His diligence and determination have continued to make a difference in the lives of many," said Monroe. Burr's family was on hand to see their father and grandfather accept the award. Grandson Brady Burr sang at the dinner and surprised his grandparents with a song written for them. Then the children present took time to pound on the pinata until its goodies spilled on the floor to the delight of the children. @2006

Hyrum Burton was born June 30, 1873 in Evanston, Wyoming. His parents were William Gilbert Burton and Hannah Tregale Burton of Kaysville, Utah and Logan, Utah. He married Eliza Nichols on July 20, 1898 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on May 3, 1881 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She died on October 6, 1952 in Paris, Idaho. He died on February 24, 1939 in Montpelier, Idaho.

Faculty & Staff Early 1960s - Church History Teacher. Marshall T. Burton married June Elizabeth Barlow on June 19, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. June Elizabeth Barlow Burton, 66, died Tuesday, July 2, 1991 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1925 in Bountiful, Utah, the daughter of John Clyde and Joukje Zysling Barlow. She attended school in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah where she excelled scholastically and musically. She attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. She was Miss Utah in 1949 and shared her singing talent with church and civic groups throughout the state. She loved sewing, flower arranging and music. She completed a mission in the British Isles. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for several years. Later, she accompanied her husband in presiding over the Ohio West Virginia Mission. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew, and she is survived by her husband, Marshall T. Burton, four sons, David, Steven, John and Mark; three daughters, Julie Ann, Mary Ann, and Kathleen; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, J. Paul Barlow, Gary D. Barlow; three sisters, Mrs. Russell B. (Norma B. Orchard) Jex, Mrs. Keith (Marge) Bringhurst and Mrs. Albert H. (Virginia) Stoler. [Published in the Deseret News, Friday, July 5, 1991.]
