Class of 1958 - Honorary. Doug Schaerrer. [Students who attended BYH or BYJrH but for one reason or another graduated from other schools.] His brother, Tom Schaerrer, is a member of the BYH Class of 1963, and lives in Sherman Oaks, California. @2003 Their mother: Madge McMullin Schaerrer Kennedy. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS WIFE'S OBITUARY: Barbara Lee Berge Schaerrer - 1940 ~ 2013. Barbara was called home on May 29, 2013, after a brief and valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Doug Schaerrer; children, Bart Schaerrer (MaryLynn), Sydney Matthews (Blake), Shelly Eaton, and Cade Schaerrer (Keena); brother, Lee Berge (Steph); sister, Glenda Gianelo (Gus); and 13 grandchildren. Born on February 1, 1940, in Payson, Utah, to Glen E. and Beulah M. Berge, she was the first of three children. Her father was determined to raise a baseball player and Barbara was up to the task. Glen played and coached semi-professional baseball and Barbara served as the "bat boy" for his teams. She became an excellent player and has played and coached the sport - which is, by far, her favorite. Her love of sports led her to earn a degree in Physical Education from Utah State University. She taught PE for several years - first at Camelback High School in the Phoenix area, and then Lincoln Junior High School in Orem. She loved working with youth in those settings. Barbara married her long-time friend and sweetheart, Doug Schaerrer, in the Logan Temple in August of 1963. Together they had many adventures building and operating businesses, serving in church callings, completing a full-time mission, and working in the St. George Temple. In recent years, Barbara focused her attention on her grandchildren. They loved spending time with her and would look forward with great anticipation to back-to-school shopping with Grandma each fall. Barbara made a point of attending every possible event where a grandchild would be playing in a sport or performing on stage. In lieu of a viewing, a celebration of Barbara's life will be held at the Blake & Sydney Matthews residence on Monday evening, June 3. 2013, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at 465 West 3540 North, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will begin at 11 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Lindon 17th Ward chapel, located at 1051 East 200 South, Lindon, Utah under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. On February 15, 2005, Caroline Scorup Polly died at age 96 of causes incident to old age. She was born on April 4, 1908 in Salina, Utah, her father's hometown. He had taken the family to Salina from their home in Bluff, Utah, so that this sixth child could be delivered by a doctor. But on the day Caroline was born, the doctor was out of town. And so, her father John Albert Scorup, a rancher who had delivered many a calf, delivered her himself with instructions from his wife, Emma Theodora Bayles, who was a midwife, as well as a schoolteacher. Caroline [BYH Class of 1916] was the youngest of six sisters, Edna Scorup Larsen [BYH Class of 1916], Veda Bayles Scorup Nelson Williams [BYH Class of 1919], Anna LaVerde Scorup Gurney [BYH Class of 1921], Juliette Scorup Ward, and Pearl Alberta Scorup Fairbourn, all of whom died before she did. Growing up to the age of nine in Bluff, Caroline saw there the last mustering of the U.S. Cavalry from Denver for an expected Indian uprising which never happened. Her family moved to Provo so that all six sisters could graduate from BYU. Caroline chose to major in Dietetics and Business. While at BYU she met her sweetheart Orville Louis Polly, who became her chemistry lab instructor and husband. They married during the Great Depression on August 29, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple and rode the bus for their honeymoon to Baltimore, Maryland, where Orville completed his Ph.D. Fortunately finding a job in the oil industry in Southern California, they settled in Long Beach, where they raised their family, Karen Elizabeth, Julie Ann and Kenneth Edward. Caroline and Orville made many wonderful friends and were active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For many years Caroline was the secretary-treasurer of the Relief Society women's organization of the church during the bazaar era. She also taught Primary, Mutual, Sunday School and was a faithful visiting teacher as long as she was able. When Orville died in 1971, Caroline followed through alone on their retirement plans to move back to Provo. The people of her neighborhood and Edgemont 8th, now the 11th Ward, have been cherished friends. [Deseret News, Friday, February 18, 2005.] |
