Class of 1954. Dale C. Robison. Baseball, Track, Lettermen, Assistant Librarian, Debate, Childrens Theater, Thespians. BYU 1958. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NEWS ARTICLE: High School track mainstay will be absent from BYU meet. The 103rd running of the BYU Track and Field Invitational will go off this weekend, and for the first time in nearly two decades a familiar face will be missing on the track. If there was a big track meet in Utah, Dale Robison was probably there, although you wouldn't know it. He was always behind the scenes. Robison, 77 later this month, retired from officiating track and cross country competitions following last fall's state high school cross country championships. The kids come and go, but Robison was there year in and year out, a fixture on the track scene as a meet referee, head umpire or head of an event. He officiated more than 400 track meets, which ought to qualify him for a gold medal. This includes 30 state high school track and cross country championships, two U.S. Olympic Trials and countless NCAA and U.S. Championships. "I just enjoyed being around track," says Robison, a former high school track athlete at Brigham Young High. Robison, a second cousin of former BYU track coach Clarence Robison, began officiating meets in Los Angeles and it got in his blood. After retiring from American Airlines, he returned to Utah and continued to officiate track meets. So what has he been doing in the short time since he retired? "Well," he says, "my grandson is starting up track in junior high, and I got asked to help, so I've been officiating their meets." [Deseret News, Thursday, May 2, 2013]

Laurel and Mark Howard

Class of 1967. Laurel Robison. Spanish Club, Pep Club (Squad Leader), Hi-Steppers, F.H.A. (Vice President as a Senior), Honor Society, Girls' Extra-mural Sports, 4th Year Seminary, Girls' State Alternate. BYU BS Mathematics 1971. BYU MS Mathematics 1973. Married Mark Howard. @2010 ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Laurel Brigitte Robison Howard. On December 12, 2020 Laurel, surrounded by family, entered peacefully into eternal rest after a 9-year battle with cancer. Laurel was diagnosed with abdominal cancer in August of 2011. She endured 5 surgeries, and 3 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. In December 2015 she suffered complications from surgery/chemo and was in a medically induced coma for three weeks. Laurel always expressed gratitude to the friends and family that spent many days with her in the hospital and helped her while she relearned how to walk over the 6 months after the coma. Laurel was born in Fillmore, Utah on August 25, 1949. She served in Germany as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from June 1972 to December 1974. She was a faithful member of the Church and a dedicated student of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the years she served as a Primary President, Young Women President, Relief Society President and Stake Primary President, but she most enjoyed her many years serving as a Sunday School Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Laurel married Mark Howard on August 14, 1976 and they had identical triplet daughters on August 11, 1977, Erica (Brian) Farr, Jessica (Dare) Grohman, and Monica (Henry) Ferreyra. Thankfully, her subsequent three sons were born separately, Gary (Debbie) Howard, Scott (Kim) Howard, and Sean (Christine) Howard. She graduated from Brigham Young University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics, minoring in German. After her children were grown, she obtained a Doctor of Education degree from Utah State University. Laurel had a passion for teaching. She taught math for a total 44 years at Brigham Young University, Arizona State University, Mesa Community College, Salt Lake Community College, and Utah Valley University. Laurel's mission statement for teaching was, "Teaching is my joy! If I can help students succeed and be confident in their mathematics' abilities, I have achieved success." In addition to her formal teaching, she spent countless hours tutoring literally hundreds of children of family, friends and neighbors. Laurel enjoyed attending sporting events in which her children, grandchildren, or BYU participated. While living in Chandler Arizona one of her favorite activities was playing basketball with her friends. Laurel was one of the most kind and caring people you could ever meet, but she was very competitive on the basketball floor. She also enjoyed other team sports, including softball and volleyball and loved taking long walks, particularly if she had someone to talk with along the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolf and Ingeborg Robison, and brother, David. She was survived in death by her husband and six children, 23 grandchildren, her brothers, Roland, Richard, and Lynn, and her sisters Rose and Caroline. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 10305 E. Southern Ave., Mesa Arizona 85208. [The Arizona Republic, December 12, 2020.]
