Faculty & Staff, Teacher at the BYU Laboratory School. Donna M. Penrod Winkler died Sunday, April 14, 1996 in Provo, Utah. She was born April 25, 1905 in Provo, Utah to Charles Wells Penrod and Sarah Eliza Forsyth. Donna met Justin "J" Winkler when she went to Bluebell to teach school. They were married in Provo, Utah on December 29, 1926. The marriage was solemnized five months later in the Manti LDS Temple. Donna attended school in Provo, ultimately graduating from Provo High School. She then attended Brigham Young University and received a teaching certificate in 1927. She taught school in Bluebell, in the Provo School District and in the BYU Laboratory School. Throughout her lifetime Donna was an active member of the LDS Church and served on both stake and ward levels. Donna and Justin also served a stake mission. Additionally, she worked in civic and service organizations, assisting in the organization of early county programs for the handicapped. Her hobbies and talents were many. She enjoyed being a seamstress and making clothing for her family. Donna was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. A great pleasure in her life was enjoying the beauty of the North Fork of Provo Canyon at the family cabin. Donna is survived by her daughter, Phyllis W. Clyde; a sister, Lois P. Yager; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Robert (Barbara Jean) Gates, Mrs. Paul A. (Marylee) Haynie, and Jon Justin Winkler. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in Provo, Utah. Burial, Provo City Cemetery. After working in various jobs (picking fruit, loading trailers), he obtained his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University (majoring in education, with minors in history, political science, and sociology). After several years teaching high school, he returned to BYU, writing experimental curriculum and teaching at Brigham Young High School (the BYU laboratory and experimental high school), while assisting in the University's teacher training program. He authored several Home Study programs. He taught history and social studies at B.Y. High until 1968. After obtaining a M.A. degree from BYU in 1968, Professor Penrod continued his graduate studies at UCLA, with an emphasis on English History. In 1970, after a stint at Safeway Cookie Factory and Knudsens Dairy, he accepted a teaching position at Pierce College where he has taught courses in American history and English history. Her parents were Charles William Perkins and Karen Lillian Sorensen Perkins. Ruth married Otto Leon Lohmolder [or Lohmoelder] on December 25, 1926. Otto was born on May 8, 1892 in Hopkins, Michigan. His parents were John William Lohmolder and Caroline Dendel Lohmolder. Otto died on August 30, 1977. Source: The Evening Herald, Provo, Utah, Wednesday, June 1, 1932. ~ ~ ~ ~ Harold "Harry" Perlman was born on December 21, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents were Sam Perlman, born in Russia, and Anna Lieberman, born in Poland. Harry died on December 5, 1936 in Provo, Utah. He died of a sarcoma, a cancer of the supportive tissue and soft tissue, in his lung, brain and left tibia. This was caused, perhaps, when in October of 1932 he suffered an injury to his left ear in a football accident. He had several operations up through 1936, but they were ultimately not successful. Harold Perlman did not marry. His brother, Philip Perlman, graduated from BYH in the Class of 1938. |

Boys' Athletic Club. ~ ~ ~ ~ Philip Perlman was born on March 15, 1920 and died on March 25, 2002 in the Holladay/ Murray /Salt Lake City area. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Philip Perlman, age 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grand- father died with his family by his side, March 25, 2002. He was born March 15, 1920 and was raised in Provo, Utah, the son of Sam and Anne Perlman. He married Miriam Pepper on September 1, 1940. Phil loved people and will be remembered for his resonating voice and strong opinions. He cherished the times he spent at Riverside Country Club as a founding member. He was proud of his family business, Provo Hide & Fur, and was grateful for his second career with Central Bank & Trust. He loved his community involvement; ranging from a Provo City Council Member, President of the Salt Lake City Jewish Community Center, to his over 50-year membership with the Masons. Phil had great passion for the University of Utah. He was a Charter Board Member of the Crimson Club. He and Miriam established the Perlman Award to honor excellence in student advising. He is survived by his devoted wife, Miriam; daughters, Nancy Perlman White (Clifford), Susan Perlman Robinson (Edward), and son, Michael Perlman (Patricia); his grandchildren, Allyson, David, Jeffery, Gregory, and Melissa; and five great- grandchildren. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the Congregation Montefiore Cemetery, 4th Avenue and P Street, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Class of 1952. James Perri. Football, Baseball, Track, Lettermen, Thespians, Chorus. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: James Barrett Perri, age 76, died December 18, 2009 in Provo, Utah. He was born on August 13, 1933 in Helper, Utah to Joseph Basil and Amelia Barrett Perri. He married Delpha Colleen Clayson on September 29, 1955. She passed away on February 12, 2003. He grew up in Provo and graduated from B.Y. High in the Class of 1952. He excelled in track and gymnastics. Following his marriage to Colleen, they spent most of their married life in Provo. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Painters Local 77. He worked as an Industrial steel painter at many of the power plants in the state. He also owned his own restaurant for eight years and managed the Andy's Smorgasbord Restaurants in the 1960's. He owned and operated the Hobble Creek Inn Restaurant. James loved to golf, fish with his family and was an avid gardener. We are happy for the reunion he is having with his bride. He is survived by his one son and three daughters: James Barrett Perri, II (Andrea Cooley); Micheli Perri Warner (Patrick); Stephanie Perri Thomas (Lynn); Jennifer Perri Taylor (Chris); 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverley Davies (Keith). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo. He delivered the Address of Welcome at graduation exercises, where he also sang in a male quartet, "The Bells of Shanndon" by Nevin, along with Eric Steineckert, Robert Morgan, and El Ray Richins. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Our devoted father and grandfather, Leland Malin Perry of Provo, Utah, passed away at his home August 31, 2010. Malin was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and McNone Perry, and his sister Yolanda Perry Carle. He is survived by his children David M. Perry, Robert L. Perry, John A. Perry and Rebecca (Perry) Wallace; 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and by his brother Russell, and sister-in-law Judy Perry. Dad was born April 1, 1928 in Cedar City, Utah, but his father's work as a civil engineer took the family all over the state before they finally settled in Provo. There Dad attended Brigham Young High School where he graduated in 1946, and then graduated from Brigham Young University with a Business Degree in 1954. From 1948-1951, he served an LDS mission to New Zealand. While at BYU, Dad received his Air Force commission, and was stationed at Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming from 1955-1957. Dad was in the Air Force Reserves until he retired in 1988 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was active in the March of Dimes organization, and served as president of the BYU Downtown Coach's Club from 1965-1966. From the 8th grade on, Dad always had a part- or full-time job, and he maintained an office until his death. He played trumpet in a popular dance band led by Ronald Griggs, and had a fine tenor voice. He was a true bibliophile and could spend hours in a bookshop. The happiest days of his life were those when each of his children joined the family. He told us many times, "Being a father is a marvelous privilege." We invite friends and family to gather at a memorial service on September 7, 2010 at 10 a.m., at Walker Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo. No flowers, please. Dad had hayfever.
