Class of 1955. Robert D. Hatch. Football, Baseball, Lettermen, Band, Childrens Theater. Right out of high school, Bob served in the Navy for 3 years. While in the Navy he went to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hong Kong while serving on the USS Lewis. He married Marie and they have four daughters and two sons: Tina, Lisa, Brian, Audry, Heather and Adam. Bob worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for five years, and then for the Utah Railway for 35 years. While working for the railroad he was Clerk Agent, Dispatcher, Trainmaster and Assistant Superintendent. He has served in two bishoprics and as financial clerk under five different bishops. His favorite things to do include fishing, camping, boating, and four-wheeling. He likes to travel. Recently had a stroke but is recovering well. After all of these years, he is still best friends with Jimmy Earl, also BYH Class of 1955, who lives in Springville. [Do not confuse with Robert D. Hatch, Spanish Fork, Utah.] @2005

His parents were Charles William and Caroline Victoria Jensen Hatch and John Henry and Winifred Edwards Makin. He married Vera Afton Leavitt on November 3, 1939 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by Afton, his wife of 55 years; daughters: Deyanne (Robert) Sweeten, Salt Lake; Charlene (Merrill) Wells, Sandy; Lynette (David) Edwards, Salt Lake; Jeri (Mark) Richardson, Sandy; Debra (David) Peterson, West Valley City; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Makin, Birmingham, England. Preceded in death by daughter Vickie Christine Hatch. Funeral services were held Friday, November 11, 1994 at the Holladay 11th Ward, 2065 East 4675 So, Salt Lake City, Utah. Class of 1948. Alora Hawker. Spanish Club 1. Chorus 3. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Our beloved sister, aunt and friend, Alora Jane Hawker, 70, passed away on June 3, 2001 in Orem, Utah. She was born October 14, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to James P. and Phyllis Pickering Hawker. She moved to Provo as a teenager, attended Brigham Young High School, and graduated in 1948. She then graduated from BYU with a BS and MS. She served in many capacities in her community, church and sports. She never married. She always loved bowling. She was inducted into the (PWBA) Provo Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1985. She served for 28 years in the (UWBA) Utah Women's Bowling Association;, the last few years as 2nd Vice President. She was inducted into the (UWBA) Hall of Fame Emerita in March 2000. Her sister, Annette Hawker (David) Spackman, five nieces, four nephews, and many friends survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Doris Hawker Mackey. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her willingness to serve others. She will be missed! Graveside services were held Friday, June 8, 2001 at Orem City Cemetery in Orem. Class of 1953. Senior Class Social Chair. Beaux Arts Club, Chorus, Fauvines. OBITUARY: Doris Lila Hawker Mackey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away in her home at the age of 58. She was born on October 14, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of James Palmer and Phyllis Pickering Hawker. She and her family moved to Provo when she was seven years old, where she later attended Brigham Young High School, and graduated in 1953. She then attended B.Y.U. She married Darrell Kay Mackey on November 18, 1955 in the Manti LDS Temple. She was a member of the LDS Church, living in the Grandview 1st Ward. Doris was interested in oil painting and creative arts. She will be remembered for her love and kindness to others and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Darrell of Provo, Utah; one son and three daughters: Michael Mackey, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Michael (Allison) Robbins, of Sandy, Utah; Mrs. Jay (Karen) Mitchell, Mrs. Lee (Leslie) French, both of Orem, Utah; seven grandchildren: Brigitte, Carly, Chelsea, Colin, Alexandra, Wade, Brett; and two sisters: Alora Hawker, Mrs. David (Annette) Spackman, both of Orem, Utah. Pep Club, Hi-Steppers, F.H.A., Chorus, Band, Wildcat Yearbook Staff (Class Section Editor), 4th Year Seminary. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Kathryn (Kathy) Cherie Hawkins Wilt, formerly of Provo, died at home in Los Osos, California on Friday, July 12, 2002 surrounded by her family following a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Born on June 18, 1949 in Provo, she attended Provo City Schools and graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1967. She received a B.S. degree in Fashion Merchandising from Brigham Young University in 1971. While at BYU she worked for Robert Redford managing the boutique at his Sundance Ski Resort. Following graduation she worked for Capwell's Department Store in Oakland, CA, where she met her husband Peter. He worked in the Boy's Dept. and she worked across the aisle in Women's Accessories and was, coincidentally, her Home Teacher. They were married in August 1974 at the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While her husband attended graduate school at BYU, she worked as a department manager at ZCMI Department Store in Orem. For the past 17 years she has worked at Gottschalk's Department Store in San Luis Obispo, CA. During her career at Gottshalk's she held various Department Manager positions, and most recently was the Area Manager with responsibility over the women's sportswear departments. She held various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Morro Bay Ward, in Morro Bay, California. She is survived by her husband Peter, and children Matthew, Jeremy, Elizabeth, and Andrew, all of Los Osos. She is also survived by her parents, Albert Gay Hawkins and Helen Watkins Hawkins, both of Provo; her brother T. Ryan Hawkins of Bountiful; sisters Pamela (Mrs. Paul Sucher) of Provo; and Patricia (Mrs. Dan L. Carter) of Spanish Fork; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Friday, July 19, 2002 in Provo, Utah. Interment, Provo's Pioneer Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the Huntsman Cancer Research Center. Betty was born in Williston, North Dakota, December 30, 1930. She was the daughter of Alvin Leroy Bean and Anna Karoline Nilsen. She received her education in Williston, North Dakota and at Brigham Young University. She married Armond Lee Hawley, BY High Class of 1949, on Nov. 24, 1952 in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent a lifetime of faithful service to her family, her church and her neighbors. She was loved by all. Her lifelong passion was genealogy and she left a large body of successful research. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, daughters Suzanne Nelson, Cody, Wyoming; and Annalee Alexander, Burlington, Wyoming; sons Paul (Linda) Hawley, Maple Falls, Washington; and Mark Hawley, Salt Lake City. She is also survived by sisters Marge (Earl) Townsend and Joan Beam; brothers Don (Kay) Bean and David (Betty) Bean; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Leslie, Alvin Jr. and Melvin. Funeral Services were held Friday, October 3, 2003 in Salt Lake City. [Deseret News, Thursday, October 2, 2003.] ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Armond Lee Hawley, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2008, in his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He returned to his Father in Heaven, and to his beloved wife, Betty Ann Bean Hawley. Armond was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 10, 1931. He was one of two children of Armond Vard Hawley and Leola Ellen Shiner Hawley. He spent most of his childhood in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1949, and attended college at Brigham Young University. He served in the U.S. Great Lakes Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married and was sealed to Betty Ann Bean on November 24th, 1952, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple. Armond loved the Gospel and serving in the Lord's kingdom on earth. He and Betty raised a family of four children. He is survived by all of his children and one daughter-in-law: Suzanne Hawley Nelson of Laramie, Wyoming; Annalee Hawley of Powell, Wyoming; Paul and Linda Hawley of Bellingham, Washington; and Mark Hawley of Salt Lake City, Utah. Armond is also survived by his only sister, Lee Hawley Anderson, and her husband, David Anderson, of Redding, California. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Services were held in the Salt Lake Big Cottonwood Stake Center, 1750 E. Spring Lane in Salt Lake City on Saturday, November 15, 2008. I grew up with Armond in Provo and we were best of friends at BY High. I haven't seen Armond since we both served our missions. However, I still remember that we had great times sharing our teenage years, scouting experiences etc. I have wondered how he was and what life experiences he was having as I have lived my life. Armond had a great sense of humour, and was always an example for others. I am sure that his family has been richly blessed sharing their life with him. I am lost for words at this moment of hearing of his death, at the same time, my mind and heart are filled with warm and wonderful memories of the moments and good times we enjoyed as friends growing up. Armond always set a good example for others. I am wishing that we had had more time to share as we raised our families and enjoyed the blessings of life. My prayers are with you children and your families. May you find comfort and peace and know that your father was a great influence for good among his friends as he matured in his youth. We both served missions at the same time, and then lost touch. But, when friendship is rich and full of goodness, one is never forgotten. Bless you all. Haws died on February 17, 2000, in Exeter, Tulare County, California. Interment, Exeter, California. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: EXETER, California. Ben Frank Haws, Ph.D, passed away at his home in California on Thursday, February 17, 2000, at the age of 67, after a lengthy struggle with lung disease. He was born in Escalante, Utah on December 25, 1932 (Christmas Day) to Claud Emmorn and Nan Nelson Haws. Ben graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1951. He then graduated from Brigham Young University in 1960. He served an LDS mission to the Central States in 1953-55. He served in the U.S. Navy 1955-57. He also enrolled at the University of Utah where he received his masters degree in social work in 1962. He worked in that capacity at the Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah, and later in the Maricopa County Mental Health Department in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Ben Haws later returned to BYU and graduated in 1972 with his PhD in clinical psychology before moving with his family to Visalia, California where he was employed by the Kings View Corporation, and later with Tulare County until he retired in 1994. He is survived by his beloved wife Jackie Haws whom he married in the Ogden LDS temple; a daughter Chemene Haws, Laramie, Wyoming; sons, Frank McKinley Haws and Kent Minor (Frances) Haws, Exeter, California; stepchildren, Candi (Paul) Houghton, Visalia, California; Stephanie (Matthew) Morello, Exeter, California; six grandchildren; and one brother, J.C. (Eva) Haws, Brigham City, Utah. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Exeter, California. [Garfield County News, February 24, 2000]

August 26 1946 ~ February 19, 2017. Cyril passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 peacefully at the Abbington in Mapleton Utah from complications due to cancer and infections. Cyril was born in Provo, Utah to Sterling, and Ida Haws. Cyril grew up in Provo, Utah and attended Brigham Young High School, graduating in the Class of 1964. He later attended Snow College. Cyril is a member of the LDS Church and served a 2-year mission in England. Cyril was first married to Adaline Park, had 2 children and later divorced. He later was married to Abbie Hargrave, had 1 son and later divorced. Cyril spent most of his adult life in Springville, Utah. He worked for the Springville City departments for several years. Cyril loved to fish, loved to spend time with his grandkids, and loved to make people laugh. He has been preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Arland, and his sisters LorAnn, Gwen, and Gertrude. He leaves behind 3 children, Tanya (Andrew) Yost, Brad (Robin) Haws, and Kory (Mary) Haws, and a sister Melva Richardson. She was born in St, Johns, Arizona, on December 31, 1934, to Sterling and Ida Overson Haws. She moved with her family to Provo, Utah, where she resided until her death. She graduated from BYU High School in the Class of 1953. She was a hard worker, employed as a cashier at Allen�s and Albertson�s grocery stores for over 60 years. Her hobby was giving service. She would do anything for anyone. She enjoyed shopping and had a nose for clearance sales and good deals. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in various callings. Gertrude is survived by one brother, Cyril Haws; and one sister, Melva (Brent) Richardson; and �her girls� Sherry (Rick, Sr.) Moore, and Shawna Shelley. Also survived by two grandkids: Shaurelle Burnside and Dacota Shelley, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Ida LorAnn Deveraux and Gwen Lance; two brothers: Eldred Rogers and Arland Rogers; and a son-in-law, Rod Shelley.
