In the early morning hours of September 21, 2019, Janet quietly and peacefully slipped from this life into the next at the home of her daughter in St. George, Utah. She was born May 5, 1940, in Payson, Utah. She was the middle child of the three children of Richard Albert Gough and Aleene Kay. She married her true love Clark Henry Rose in Orem, Utah on May 28, 1960. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple. She grew up on a small farm at the mouth of Payson Canyon, with her sisters Reva and Mariel. The pastures, fields, and forest were their playground. They ran free as wild horses and had a very happy childhood. Janet completed high school at Brigham Young High School in Provo in the Class of 1958. She then graduated with a cosmetology license from Hollywood Beauty College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary and Relief Society. She worked at North Ogden Elementary School. She led a life of service, always thinking of others. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, reading, shopping, lunch with the girls, traveling, and marking goals off her bucket list. She lived in North Ogden, Utah and St. George, Utah. She took joy in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Clark raised four children. She said her greatest accomplishment was her family. They brought her much happiness. Seldom a day went by that she did not talk on the phone with one or all of her children. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clark and their four children: JaNeece Knowles (Keith), DeAnn Fifield (Steve), Richard Rose (Julee), Nicole Christensen (Chad), 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mariel Baird Limb (Walt), brother-in-laws: Kenneth Rose (Bobbie), Marvin Limb, and Reid Fowers. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Reva Stubbs, brother-in-law Wayne Stubbs, sister-in- law Julie Fowers. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2019, at 11 AM at North Ogden 16th Ward LDS Chapel, 205 E. Elberta Dr., North Ogden, Utah 84414 with visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM and also on Thursday, September 26, 2019, from 6-8 PM at the same location. According to her students, she was a wonderful Second Grade teacher at the BYU Elementary School. ~ ~ ~ ~ June Gourley married Lynn Scott Searle. Their children included: Judith Lynne Searle (Louis V.) Brackett (dec), Provo; Robert (Cheryl) Searle, West Bountiful; Ramon (Judy) Searle, Mesa, Arizona; and Karen (David) Pond, Pittstown, New Jersey. @2006 HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: The patriarch of our family, Lynn Scott Searle, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on June 21, 2006 in Provo, Utah. He was born July 18, 1914 in Provo, Utah, the son of Ellen LaPrele Scott and Lester Wilson Searle. Lynn graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1932. He served in the Southern States Mission, Florida District, for the LDS Church in 1933. When he returned from his mission, he joined the Utah National Guard. He attended BYU, graduating with a bachelors degree in 1940 and a masters degree in 1963. He then worked on his doctorate in Minnesota. A beautiful young lady, June Gourley, caught his eye. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 17, 1940. They had four children, Robert, Ramon, Judith, and Karen. In the early 1940's, Lynn was a teacher and principal at Cedar Fort and Alpine Elementary Schools in the Alpine School District. In 1946, he became a seminary teacher and taught seminary in Panguitch, Nephi, American Fork, Provo, and Salt Lake at Jordan and West High Schools. In 1968, he was employed by the State of Utah at the Utah State Hospital and the American Fork Training School as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor until he retired in 1982. Lynn and June served an LDS mission in Roanoke, Virginia which covered the area of Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland from 1985-1987. Lynn was an active member of the LDS Church all of his life and loved serving in various ward and stake callings. Most recently he loved teaching the High Priest Group in his Pleasant View Ward. He had been serving in the Provo LDS Temple as an ordinance worker for the last 11 years until his recent hospitalization. Lynn is survived by his wife, June; three children, Robert (Cheryl) Searle, West Bountiful, Utah, Ramon (Judy) Searle, Mesa, Arizona, Karen (David) Pond, Pittstown, New Jersey; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; brothers and sister; and many loving nephews, nieces, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith (Lou) Brackett; and his brothers, Don and Ralph Searle. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29, 2006 in Provo. The matriarch of our family, June Gourley Searle, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father December 31, 2008. June was born on June 25, 1919 in Pleasant Grove, Utah the daughter of David and Dora West Gourley. June graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. While June was attending BYU, she met a handsome young man, Lynn Scott Searle. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 17, 1940. They had four children: Robert, Ramon, Judith and Karen. June received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University majoring in elementary education. In 1974, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah with a major in educational administration. Her first teaching position was in Panguitch, Utah where she taught English and dramatic art. She also taught in Granite and Jordan school districts and then on to the BYU Lab School. Dr. Searle assisted in opening up summer sessions at the Church College of Hawaii and she developed programs to enhance learning and teaching skills for the Native Americans in Southern Utah. She was active in many civic and church organizations and served as an active member in professional areas such as Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, Utah Education Association an ACEI. She helped to develop and write curriculum and conferences for gifted and talented children while at BYU. Many remember her annual display of the Sugar Plum Dream. June served an LDS mission with her husband in Roanoke, Virginia from 1985 to 1987. She was a member of the LDS Church all of her life and loved serving in those capacities to which she was called. She served as a temple ordinance worker at the Provo Temple for a number of years. June is survived by her children: Robert (Cheryl) Searle, West Bountiful, Utah; Ramon (Judy) Searle, Mesa, Arizona; Karen (David) Pond, Holland; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, sister, and many loving nephews, nieces and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn, daughter, Judith (Louis) Brackett and granddaughter, Anna (Luke) Downer. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. James Woodmansee and to Susan Willis and Jerri Taylor at Harmony Home Health for their loving care. Funeral services will be provided by Olpin Family Mortuary and will be held Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View Ward, 650 East Stadium Avenue in Provo (located just north of the Missionary Training Center in Provo.) The viewing will be held Thursday evening, January 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pleasant View Ward and Friday morning from 9:45 a.m to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. It was often said that she is not only the best in Provo but in and beyond Utah. Her husband Lynn was one of the kindest men I've known. She was born June 5, 1916 in Provo, Utah, the daughter of Earl and Elvira Harrison Graham. She married William R Firmage on January 12, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. She is survived by 5 children: Susan (Spencer) Cloward, Russell Graham (Jessie) Firmage, Pamela Faye Field, Debbie Ann (Dwight) Bird and Robert Graham Firmage, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, infant son William Graham Firmage, brother Arnold Graham and son-in-law Don Field. Faye graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1936. Faye's first love was her family. She was very active in community and civic affairs as chairman of the Federation of Women's Clubs of Utah, director of the Women's Division of the Provo Chamber of Commerce, past president and member of PHILE-NADA and charter member of the Riverside Country Club. She loved playing Bridge with the girls. The family would like to thank Dr. Sean Curzon for his constant concern and care and Janice from Applegate Hospice service for her loving care and attention. [Provo Daily Herald, Friday, January 27, 2012] ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: William Raddon Firmage, age 79, died January 13, 1995 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Provo. He was born September 11, 1915 in Park City to Edwin D. and Miriam Raddon Firmage. He married Faye Graham on January 12, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mr. Firmage attended elementary school in Spanish Fork and Provo. When Bill was 11 years old, the Firmage family moved to Provo, where he graduated from Provo High and attended Brigham Young University. In 1935-1937, Mr. Firmage served a mission for the LDS Church, serving in the British Mission in London, England and Scotland. On his return from his mission, he joined his father, brother, Ed, and brother-in-law, Stan Heal, as managing partner of E.D. Firmage Department Store in Provo. He was one of the pioneering developers of Downtown Provo. Bill was active in the Provo Chamber of Commerce. In 1950-52 he was President of the Kiwanis Club. In the early forties, he sponsored and had his own radio program, "Behold 'Tis Evening Tide." He was a charter member of the Riverside Country Club and a Veteran of World War II. Bill will always be remembered for his beautiful speaking abilities. He was an outdoor enthusiast, especially active in golf and skiing. With all of his business and civic duties, he was first and last a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Faye, two sons and three daughters: Susan Kay and Spence Cloward, Russell G. and Jessie Firmage, Pamela Faye and Don Field, Deborah Ann and Dwight Bird, Robert G. and Cindy Firmage, 15 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, a sister, Louise F. Heal. He was preceded in death by a son, William Graham Firmage. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 17, 1995 in Provo. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Band, Debate, Short Plays, Childrens Theater. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Rulon Alvin Graham passed away on December 18, 2016 due to complications from his 25 year battle with Parkinsons disease. Rulon was born in American Fork on December 9, 1935 to Alvin and Laprele Graham. He grew up in Wallsburg and Provo, graduating from B.Y. High School in the Class of 1954. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Nike Radar Operator in Seattle from 1954 to 1956. On August 24, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Alice Thomsen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Rulon worked at the Provo Post Office for 37 years as a Mail Carrier and later managing the postal fleet. Rulon will be remembered as a life long learner; from making his own telescope and his passion for learning about the universe, to building his own kayak, spending 2,000 hours building a model ship, making beautiful stained glass windows for his home, his adventures in mountain climbing and his passion for photography. He also loved sitting with friends and family playing games or figuring out a complex puzzle. Rulon lived a life of service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in several ward and stake callings. Early mornings would find him painting over graffiti on the high school wall, mowing a lawn for a sick neighbor, or fixing a sink at the church he noticed was leaking. No one ever knew who had done the work because for Rulon it was about service, not the recognition. To Rulon, a stranger was just a friend he had never met. To those who knew this gentle giant, he was the best husband, father and friend you could ever want and we were fortunate enough to have. He is survived by his wife Alice, sisters Delores and Nelda (Dale) and brother Riley, children Raymond, Karl (Tracy), Bryan (Carolyn) and JennyLind (David), 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on December 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Hobble Creek Stake Center, 555 South Averett Avenue, Springville, Utah. Board of Trustees, 1918 to 1945. Sixth President of the Board of Trustees, 1919 to 1945. President of the Church, 1918 to 1945. Born on November 22, 1856, in Salt Lake City, Heber J. Grant was raised by his widowed mother, Rachel Grant. By the time he was 15, he had begun a successful business career and had been ordained to the office of Seventy. Ten years later, he was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, where he served for 37 years. After becoming Church President on November 23, 1918, he dedicated three new temples, developed the Welfare Program, and helped Latter-day Saints cope with the tragedy of World War II. His business experience enabled him to modernize Church organizations and procedures. His missionary efforts, including extensive speaking engagements and friendships with national business leaders, brought the Church to the attention of the nation. After 27 years as President, Heber J. Grant died in Salt Lake City on May 14, 1945. His wife was Augusta Grant. |
